SETTING:
The Cooler is an underground facility that is as big as a small city. It is divided into 6 major sections, aside from the Cryo Pod/Reception area. There are two off-site sections that are classified and off-limits to any Initiates. And the beginning, player characters will have access to the Residential and Cryo Pod areas. However, some of these areas will be locked to anyone and will require a little clean up before players can live there with any sort of comfort. There will be limited access to the Testing Grounds. After a few events, other areas may be unlocked, but it will require players to work together to gain full access to them.

You are greeted by your automated system administration program, 14-CUN4 or LACUNA. She is there to see to all of your basic needs, run tests and keep the peace. Please remember, you are always being observed.

Locations: (Please feel free to look at the map below.)

1) ?? - A restricted area where the door to which can be seen by those in certain parts of the Testing Grounds. Access is limited to only LACUNA's drones. This is also home to the Penalty Area. First time infractions will get you an hour in the area closest to the exit, where the temperature is around -5C. Further infractions (depending on the severity of it) may take you further into the dark and the cold.

Note: All powers are completely dampened here. So no cheating with fire magic, mages! This is the sight that greets you before the doors close.

2) Testing Grounds - This is where a great deal of the experimentation with LACUNA will be occurring. There are terminals for the initiates to access for written-based tests to happen but they will be locked down when not at use and unhackable by characters so skilled. (That doesn't mean you can't try anyway.) There are also areas for physical tests, like feats of strength and usage of any powers. There are also virtual reality simulation areas.

Once a (game) week, Initiates can volunteer to go through one of LACUNA's battery of tests. If no one volunteers, LACUNA will pick people at random. (See FAQ.)

3) "Outdoor area" - Restricted. More information will be added when it is unlocked

5) Residential Area - Every Initiate will be allowed their own room with a single bed, some shelves for personal belongings that they've earned, and a cabinet to store the two changes of clothes (suits) LACUNA will supply. On the wall nearest the door, there is a small tablet-like view screen that is immovable. There is also a medium sized lock box under the bed that each Initiate can use their fingerprint to open to keep anything secure and where their rewards will appear if earned. If the reward isn't physical, such as access to better and/or more comprehensive access to the literary archives, on their next log-in to any terminal, a pop-up will appear informing them of their enhanced selection before normal comm function is restored.

Outside of their rooms, Initiates will find communal cooking, living and fitness areas. There will be access to the many view screens, both smaller ones for personal use such as reading and communicating over the network and in-game databases and larger ones that can be used as televisions and movie screens. Sadly, there is no way to remove the devices as they are affixed very firmly and attempting to do so will result in a mark added to your file. 1 | 2 | 3

Also, if you were hoping for a great variety in things to watch and read on these, you're going to be disappointed. Books will range from a great deal of Harlequin romances, the Hardy Boys and Louie L'Amour. Better books are a privilage that you will have to earn. Movies will be corny horror movies often found on SyFy, nature documentaries and some Telenovelas in a few different languages. You can earn better movies as well.

There are a few deck of cards, but some of the cards might be missing, and board games for those not able to access the terminals or just not interested. Parcheesi, Sorry, and Monopoly seem to be the only ones available. Maybe someone will be nice and get new games as a reward? Also, no, there are no video games on the terminals. Unless you count Minesweeper.

The kitchen area will have a few ranges for cooking, some tables for eating and some fridges. Sadly, all that's available for eating right now is rations a la Cold War era bunkers. You want something better? LACUNA will accept you for some experimentation. :)

Oh, and before we forget, there are gender-based bathrooms. Men, Women, and Other (for those dragonkin and the like). Individual shower stalls and WCs are available for use. And as a luxury, there is one soaking tub, but it's not very big.

Cryo Pod Area - This is were you wake up. Pods are set out in rows, large enough to hold the occupant safely and securely. Initiates are only able to open their own pods via fingerprint (or the equivalent). As there is no infirmary, all life threatening injuries can be healed by an in-game day of sleep in the cryo pod. Initiates that die, will wake up in three (3) in-game days, but with certain restrictions. (See FAQ for those.) Pods

The halls are lined with lights and a few view screen terminals. LACUNA controls the lights. Please remember to follow instructions. 1 | 2

6) Classified - There is no access to this area and any questions asked about it after the first time will end in a mark for deviancy. :)

7) Classified - Off-site facilities are all unaccessible for Initiates.

8) Classified - A small area to the south of the Cooler, unaccessible by either anyone in the Cooler or from the outside. :)
